A Reflection On My Time Developing

About 300 hours into developing my new RPG game, I realize how far I've gotten. From feeling that this whole thing could just be a general waste of my time and barely knowing how to make a map (Which you can tell from the first place you're put it in the game) to watching many, many tutorials out of just pure determination to finish this game. I started out copying and pasting the first cave and transferring the player to each copied and pasted cave map for a piece of the cutscene to play each time. I was working hard so to speak but not smart in the slightest. I figured out later in the 3rd cutscene I've ever made that you can just have all the moving pieces together in one map and even use that piece of the map to play on too.

This 3rd cutscene was the death of me though. There are 4 ways the cutscene could go since my game is heavily focused on story and choices. 1 choice immediately ends the interaction and you can move on, another choice engages you into a battle but decreases rep with your partner, the last choice (2nd on the list though. I decided to talk about this last) choice has 2 outcomes in itself. These 2 choices all depend on if you had done a side quest. This side quest involves a summoner that you can either spare or kill. Killing or even skipping the side quest will engage in a battle whilst sparing (initially gives you a new skill from the summoner) increases a hidden variable that would come in later parts of the game. I play tested this over, and over, and over, and I kept getting stuck after the dialogue ends. I even considered hanging up the idea of making a game when it frustrated me. I skipped lunch and dinner just to finish this part of the game and when it had finally worked I felt like I achieved something big even though it was just a small part of the larger game I'm trying to complete. I'm just wondering what the satisfaction will feel like once I finally finish the game.

If you have the time, please do consider supporting. Thanks for reading! See you in the next update!
